Sculptors create their artworks from a variety of different materials and techniques which depend on the person. They often take commissions for their work and could be responsible for maintaining their work. Their sculptures are often displayed in museums, parks, outdoor spaces, and personal collections.
As for salary, the average salary of a sculptor is about $14.27 per hour with a starting salary of $10.54 per hour and the top 20% of sculptors making $34.04 per hour. This amounts to beginning sculptors making about $21,970 per year.
Education is not required but it is encouraged. Having a foundation in fine arts, art history, or sculpture specific programs assist in further engagment future success in this field. Practice and the development of technique can also be grown through workshops and other courses. VCU has an increasingly renown sculpture program which has sprung up in the last few years and could be a good option if someone was looking to become a serious sculptor. Making a portfolio, gaining an online following and putting yourself out there is very important in order to become successful sculptor.
