This piece is pretty much completed. I have been working on it for about a month and a half or more. Includimgh the hours I have spent on it at home, it probably has taken me about fifty or so hours, maybe more.
For the last stretch of this project I attempted to add the natural elements to the robot hand. I went pretty heavy on the moss and aiming it at the cracks and crevisis of the hand because that is where water would probably accumulate and it brought the piece together. I also add the pine cones and different grasses so it wasn't just moss and add some more techture and gave a sense of size to the piece.
Since I am pretty much done, and am getting kinda tired of working on it, I have a few takeaways. Next time I make something this big I definately need stirdier skeleton to work off of. Most of the fingers, since I made them too skinny and the internal cardboard was put together with hot glue, were very precarious. The rist also split in half at one point so my dad helped me brase it with a stick. However, I think it turned out pretty well, though not perfect. It was definetly a challenge for me and stretched my comfort zone in both size and detail.
One positive thing I have realized through all of this is that I can make some pretty awesom stuff and I love detail work. This makes my projects lomg and somewhat tetious, but also have satisfying result for both me as an artist and the audience. I also love seeing people reactions to it as I carry it around.
